Legacy

Our Legacy

The building that’s been home to Coral Gables for more than 65 years was built in 1906.  Although the inside has undergone many changes, the exterior is basically the same as the Leindecker boys from Chicago designed and built it well over a century ago.

Today the Coral Gables complex is one of the oldest family-owned restaurant and bar sites in Michigan.  Mike Johnson is the current owner and sole surviving son of the founder, Tom Johnson.

Coral Gables building

Tom purchased the Old Crow Bar and Hotel Saugatuck from Dale Crow in 1958.  He quickly renamed the complex Coral Gables, Hotel Saugatuck.  Rental rooms were discontinued in the early 1970s. (But who knows what the future may hold!)

Today Coral Gables includes three restaurants, four bars and year-round banquet facilities plus boat, paddleboard, kayak and jet ski rentals, a prime-location marina and a yacht brokerage.  Everything in downtown Saugatuck is within easy walking distance of Coral Gables. Our beach bar is the newest and ONLY beach bar in downtown Saugatuck!!

Enhancing a reputation built across generations, we take pride in serving and satisfying every customer.  Visit us soon for a Saugatuck experience to be enjoyed and remembered.
